STATEMENT OF INCLUSION AND DIVERSITY

Pembroke Magazine supports the Black Lives Matter Movement and BIPOC Project, as well as all other efforts to encourage inclusive diversity and to resist systemic racism and white supremacy. The magazine is funded by the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, among the most ethnically diverse universities in the South. Just as UNCP’s Office of Student Inclusion and Diversity “values the opportunity to celebrate and showcase the institution’s rich diversity as reflected in community members’ race, age, ethnicity, sex, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, ability, faith, religion, national origin, citizenship, social and economic class, ideology and other identities,” so do Pembroke Magazine’s editors seek to celebrate and showcase such a rich tapestry of voices in our pages. We recognize that our editorial decisions inevitably reflect our specific upbringing and experiences, but we read broadly and carefully in an effort to challenge our own assumptions and grow through our dialogue with contributors and readers.
